- Assist with the day to day operations of the Conservation Areas;
- Assist in the delivery of recreation programs and services that emphasize safety and user satisfaction;
- Perform a wide variety of custodial functions including grass cutting, tree trimming, facility maintenance, garbage collection, plumbing, electrical, excavations, and related duties;
- Carry out a variety of mechanical tasks on vehicles and equipment, performing tasks not requiring a licensed mechanic, including minor tune-ups, regular servicing and repairs;
- Liaise with day users, campers, and clubs using UTRCA recreation areas and services to identify their needs, resolving issues and concerns and ensuring their reasonable satisfaction;
- Assist or directly undertake special events and activities within the recreation areas or on lands of the UTRCA, as well as take the lead on all special event set-up and tear down;
- Assist the Superintendent or designate when required;
- Undertake the effective intake, handling, security and processing of cash receipts from users of the recreation areas when required;
- Assist with the delivery and evaluation of the recreation programs and services offered by the UTRCA;
- Assist with maintaining safety systems and procedures relating to all dimensions of recreation areas activities and
What You Will Bring
- Minimum grade 12 education, or equivalent is required;
- Working toward a College Diploma or equivalent from a recognized postsecondary institution in Parks, Recreation, Trades, Law Enforcement or another related field would be considered an asset;
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and valid CPR/First Aid Certificate;
- A satisfactory police check is required;
- Working experience in Conservation Area maintenance and operations, or in a related environment is preferred;
- Experience in equipment operation including trucks, tractors, riding mowers, grass trimmers, hand tools is preferred;
- Familiarity with the Conservation Authorities Act and applicable regulations;
- Familiarity with drinking water systems and applicable regulations would be an asset with the ability to be trained to operate Conservation Areas drinking water systems;
- Knowledge and comfort working with computers and online reservation systems;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability and desire to assist other staff when required to do so in other work areas of the conservation area;
- Ability to work varied shifts, including include days, afternoons, nights, and weekends;

- Assemble and organize data and information to support the Environmental Planning and Regulations Unit;
- Assist with the filing of paper documents and mapping resources used by the Environmental Planning and Regulations Unit;
- Assist with the conversion of paper documents and mapping resources to digital formats to be compatible with and filed within the Environmental Planning Regulation Units electronic storage system;
- Work with the members of the Environmental Planning and Regulations Unit to support the implementation of the Authority’s municipal land use planning and inquiry services. Responsibilities may include: compiling information and preparing mapping; processing front desk inquiries where needed, attending site visits and meetings; and recording decisions;
- Assist planning and regulations staff with the processing of applications, special studies or projects.

The Land Use Planner I will process applications under the Planning Act, respond to general inquiries related to planning and development, assist the Planning Coordinator and Land Use Planner II as needed, and support the implementation of the UTRCAs municipal land use planning and inquiry services. This position will be primarily responsible for processing Planning Act applications within the City of London. Through these programs the Land Use Planner I is responsible for contributing toward achievement of the UTRCA’s goals including the protection of life and property from natural hazards such as flood and erosion.Qualifications Education:
- A Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in Planning, Geography, Resource Management, or Environmental Science or another closely related
- Membership or eligibility for membership with OPPI and
- Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Drivers Licence
Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Minimum of (1) one year of related work experience;
- Familiar with the Planning Act and other relevant legislation such as the Conservation Authorities Act;
- Knowledge of stormwater management;
- Understanding of principles of flooding, erosion and wetland features and functions;
- Experience working with and interpreting air photo / aerial imagery, with a strong attention to detail;
- Well-developed problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, as well as other database and information management software; and,

Acting as an advisor to Senior Leaders and Employees of the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, the Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for all Human Resources related activities, programs and services for the organization. This includes strategic HR planning, full-cycle recruitment, workforce planning, policy development and administration, employee relations, investigations, and performance assessment, compensation, government and legislative compliance, training and development and HR program development. The Human Resources Coordinator supervises a team of three individuals and provides leadership for the day- to-day operations of Human Resources, Compensation and Rewards, and Health and Safety programs. The Planning Coordinator is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership for the implementation of the UTRCA’s municipal land use planning and inquiry services. Through these programs the Planning Coordinator is responsible for contributing toward the achievement of the UTRCA’s goals including the protection of life and property from natural hazards such as flood and erosion. Specifically, this will include:- Leadership, support and mentorship to staff for the review of Planning Act applications and the interpretation of Provincial Policy Statement policies related to Natural Hazards.
- Lead the review and comment on complex or contentious applications under the Planning Act and Other Legislation.
- Provide strategic direction for the Planning program and provide support to the Manager on the development and implementation of the program budget and annual workplan.
- Contribute to various program activities and assist in developing new policies for the Authority’s planning advisory services.
- Work with an interdisciplinary team of professionals and provide effective project management and technical assistance as it relates to planning and development matters of interest to the UTRCA.
- Represent the UTRCA and provide planning expertise at meetings, committees, boards, hearings and tribunals.
Education
- University Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in Planning, Resource Management, Environmental Science, or a Geography-related discipline.
- Registered Professional Planner designation or actively working towards achieving this designation.
- A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence (G class) is required.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Five (5) years of experience in an appropriate Resource Management or municipal Planning role.
- Thorough knowledge of land use planning and natural resource management legislation, regulations and policies including; the Provincial Policy Statement, Planning Act, Conservation Authorities Act, along with practical experience applying this knowledge in the review of related development applications.
- Thorough knowledge of watershed management principles.
- Knowledge of the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), aerial photo interpretation & mapping.

- Trail maintenance including pruning, grass cutting, graffiti removal, risk management inspections and garbage collection;
- Assist with new trail construction and closing of unmanaged trails;
- Maintenance, repair and construction of boardwalks, railings, barricades, signs and other trail infrastructure;
- Exposure to tree risk assessments and assist with the hazard tree removal program;
- Invasive species management using manual and chemical control methods including use of herbicides;
- Ecological restoration including tree/shrub/wildflower planting, and installation of bird and bat houses;
- Beaver management and monitoring activities by installing flow devices, tree protection and drain clean outs;
- GPS use during risk management, encroachment and trail management activities;
- Interact with the community and answer questions related to the environmentally significant

This position is funded through Canada Summer Job Program, therefore candidates must meet the following criteria:- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive)
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

- Post-secondary education in Resource Management, Forestry, Fish and Wildlife or Environmental Science;
