Sign Out a Birding Backpack

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) has partnered with Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) to develop a Birding Backpack. This special backpack will encourage families and youth to get outdoors and explore nature.

The Birding Backpack project is aligned with HPPH’s mandate of promoting healthy activity. It will be available to sign out at public libraries within Perth County and will include binoculars, a bird identification guide, activity sheets, how-to guides, a conservation area day pass, and an evaluation sheet.

“We hope to see many families sporting the Birding Backpack at our conservation areas this spring. Spending time outdoors, enjoying wildlife helps to build a connection to and understanding of nature,” says Vanni Azzano, Supervisor, Community Education (Wildwood).

The Birding Backpack was launched by UTRCA staff and the Stratford Field Naturalists at Stratford Winterfest on February 18th. The program will also expand this spring to include birding hikes for the Youth Centres in St. Marys and Mitchell.
