Environmental Assessment continues at Embro Dam (media release, January 2, 2023)

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) and Matrix Solutions Inc. are continuing work on the Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Embro Dam in the Township of Zorra.

The EA was initiated in 2015 due to significant concerns related to the structural integrity and hydraulic (spillway) capacity of the Embro Dam. The work paused in 2017 to allow for the completion of a Cultural Heritage Evaluation Report by Timmins Martelle Heritage Consultants. The report has now been received and Matrix Solutions has been reengaged to update and complete the EA study by assessing any new information, incorporating into study findings, consulting with stakeholders, and preparing the final report for posting with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

A Public Information Centre is planned for late January 2023 to present information on the project and gather public feedback.

The public can also submit comments directly to the UTRCA, ask for more information, or join the project mailing list, by contacting Sarbjit Singh, Water Control Structures Technologist (519-451-2800 ext. 245).

For more information on the project or to view the notice of intent, please visit the Embro Dam page on our website.
