Festival Hydro Tree Power – Tree Pickup this Week! (media release, April 8, 2021)

April 8, 2021 – The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is pleased to announce the first ever Festival Hydro Tree Power – Tree Pickup Days in Stratford, on Friday, April 9 and Saturday, April 10. All of the Festival Hydro Tree Power trees sold out in less than 2 hours during online sales in March!

Festival Hydro, the City of Stratford’s Energy & Environment Advisory Committee, and the UTRCA have partnered to make native hardwood trees available and affordable for residents of Stratford. The goal of this project is to create a greener and more beautiful community by adding native trees.

Jo-Dee Burbach, Councillor, City of Stratford said, “This project will help Stratford increase the number of native trees growing in the City, bringing many benefits to our local environment including increasing our tree canopy, absorbing carbon, and beautifying our community.”

“The majority of land in Stratford is privately owned, so in order to increase our tree canopy to a healthier level, we need to work together,” Burbach explained. “This program is an excellent opportunity for homeowners to add a native tree to their property in a convenient and affordable way, and it takes the guesswork out of finding the right species for our area.”

Project partners contributed funding and in-kind donations: Festival Hydro, City of Stratford, City of Stratford Energy and Environment Advisory Committee, Upper Thames River Conservation Authority, Stratford Master Gardeners
