Fullarton Dam Rehabilitation Class Environmental Assessment

Notice of Intent to Undertake a Remedial Project

Fullarton Dam Rehabilitation

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority has initiated an Environmental Assessment for the Fullarton Dam, located in the Fullarton Conservation Area. A Dam Safety Assessment was completed in 2007 which identified spillway capacity issues and stability concerns. As a result the Environmental Assessment was initiated to assess the existing conditions and evaluate alternative solutions.

The Process

The Class Environmental Assessment for Remedial Flood and Erosion Control Projects (Class EA) specifies a planning and design process which ensures environmental effects are considered in remedial flood and erosion control projects. The Class EA process invites members of the public and interested parties to provide input at key stages of the study. The Class EA process will further define the issue and its causes (the need to rehabilitate the dam), consider and evaluate alternative solutions, assess the potential impacts of the preferred solution, and identify measures to lessen potential adverse impacts.

The project will be assessed in accordance with the Conservation Ontario Class Environmental Assessment for Remedial Flood and Erosion Control Projects document (June 2013).

We Want to Hear from You

Your input is valuable, and public consultation is an important part of the study. Contact us if you want to be placed on the mailing list for project updates or wish to express an interest in participating in a Community Liaison Committee. A Public Information Centre will be planned for this Class EA project to present project information, answer questions, and hear concerns from interested persons. Details of the Public Information Centre will be provided at a later date and will be published in the local community newspaper and sent to contacts on the mailing list. Please visit the Project website for more information.
