Local author, Jon-Erik Lappano, joins UTRCA for outdoor events (media release, May 3, 2022)

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is offering family friendly Nature Nearby events in Mitchell and St. Marys on Saturday, May 7, featuring Governor General Literary Award recipient and local author, Jon-Erik Lappano. The inspiration for the program’s planned activities and inquiry-based explorations of the natural world came from Lappano’s latest book, Martin and the River. The Rotary Clubs of Mitchell and St. Marys are sponsoring these events.
“From a young age, I have found meaning and connection in nature, and I continue to have a curiosity and wonder for the world around me, which is reflected in my work as a writer. Martin and the River, specifically, is dedicated to the North Thames River, a natural space where I spent some of the fondest hours of my childhood,” said Lappano.

“We are so excited that Jon-Erik Lappano is joining us and providing a reading of his story in both Mitchell and St. Marys!” said Maranda MacKean, UTRCA Community Education Specialist. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate Jon-Erik’s connection to nature and the Thames River than by inviting people to spend time enjoying the outdoors and sharing in his story. We also want to thank the local Rotary Clubs for sponsoring this wonderful Nature Nearby program.”
