March 22, 2019 – The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is pleased to announce a new Escape Room developed as part of the Focus on Flooding education program for students in grades 5 to 8.

Karlee Flear, Community Education Specialist at the UTRCA, said, “The new Escape Room challenges students in a relevant and meaningful way to work together and find solutions to a potential flood. To date, the reaction of the students has been fantastic – they have been engaged, challenged and learned a lot about flooding!”

Funding to develop “Escape the Flood!” was provided by the National Disaster Mitigation Program.

The activity helps students understand the risks associated with flooding and provides information about what to do in an emergency. The UTRCA is developing a variety of programs for students and the general public to increase awareness about flood hazards.
