Perth Children’s Water Festival begins October 18 (media release, October 18, 2021)

The Perth Children’s Water Festival Committee is excited to share virtual opportunities and resources with classes across Perth County.

Linda Smith, Water Festival Coordinator at the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA), says, “We look forward to providing fun and interactive activities that will connect students to local organizations and educational materials to better understand the functions and importance of water!”

Each month, from October to April, a new Google activity slide will be released. These slides will feature links to fun and educational activities. Teachers will receive access to the slides early to help with planning. The first slide will be released to students on October 18.

Water Festival slides have been created by different community partner organizations showcasing how they protect, conserve and/or use water. Slides will be available until the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

The Children’s Water Festival is a fun and educational event for students in grades 4 and 5 to learn about the importance of water in their daily lives. Previous festivals have been held in person in London, St. Thomas, and Woodstock. The first Perth County festival is being held online due to the pandemic. Funding for the festival is from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and UTRCA, and supported by many community organizations including:

  • Avon Maitland District School Board
  • The City of Stratford
  • Huron Perth Catholic School Board
  • Huron Perth Public Health
  • Ontario Clean Water Agency
