Rain Forecast through Monday

WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – FLOOD OUTLOOK

Issued at: October 24, 2021 at 10:20 am; Valid until: October 27, 2021

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by Environment Canada indicating that heavy rain is expected to begin this evening and continue through Monday. Rainfall amounts between 30 to 50 mm are being forecast.

Recent rainfall over the past several weeks has saturated the ground and made the watershed more susceptible to runoff; however, we do not expect these amounts to cause any serious flooding. There may be localized drainage issues in low lying areas, and in areas that receive higher rainfall amounts, streams may approach bank full conditions.

The UTRCA’s flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas will be operated to reduce any downstream flooding if required.

UTRCA officials are monitoring the situation, and will report on any changing conditions if necessary.

Residents are reminded to use extreme caution near all watercourses. Stream banks can be slippery and unstable and the water is cold and may quickly become fast-moving and higher than normal. Parents are reminded to keep children and pets away from watercourses.
