Feb 18, 2020 – The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA), in partnership with the City of Stratford and the Stratford Energy and Environment Committee, is repairing shoreline erosion along the south shore of Lake Victoria. The current project is rehabilitating 800 feet of shoreline along Lake Victoria in front of the new Tom Patterson Theatre.

Brad Glasman, Manager of Conservation Services at the UTRCA, said, “These projects are significant because they protect against bank erosion, enhance aquatic life, increase biodiversity, and improve the lake’s water quality. The UTRCA and City of Stratford have prioritized sections of the shoreline to improve over several years.”

The 2020 project is funded by the City of Stratford. It builds on previous Lake Victoria shore work completed between 2017 and 2019.

The Avon River watershed is one of 28 subwatersheds within the Upper Thames River watershed. The Avon watershed encompasses 16,790 ha (168 sq. km), and includes portions of Perth East (86 sq. km), Perth South (57 sq. km) and Stratford (25 sq. km).
