Special Weather Statement Issued
Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Outlook
2026 Flood Event 6, Bulletin Number 1 (Issued June 17, 2026, at 14:30, Valid until June 21, 2026, at 12:00 noon)
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a Special Weather Statement calling for up to 40 mm of rain in the region, with a risk of severe thunderstorms starting this evening and overnight. More generally, forecasts are predicting 5-10 mm this evening, with an additional 15-20 mm falling overnight and into tomorrow morning.
With the ground relatively dry and able to absorb a portion of this rain, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is not expecting this system to cause serious flooding. Staff will be watching closely and will update this message accordingly should conditions change.
The UTRCA will operate its flood control reservoirs at Fanshawe, Wildwood, and Pittock Conservation Areas to reduce any downstream flooding.
The public is reminded to use extreme caution near all local waterways. Stream banks may be slippery and unstable, and the water will be cold and fast-moving. Stay out of any flooded areas and do not drive through flooded roadways. Caregivers are reminded to keep children and pets away from watercourses. It is not safe to take shelter along riverbanks or in low lying areas that are prone to flooding.
Recreational users on local waterways should be aware of current conditions and exercise additional caution.
