Tree Power comes to St. Marys! (media release: September 13, 2022)

The Town of St. Marys and the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) have partnered to make native hardwood trees available and affordable for residents of St. Marys, with the first St. Marys Tree Power!

“Tree Power came to Perth South last year and was such a success, it caught the interest of St. Marys residents. We’re very pleased to bring this program to our town this year,” said Morgan Dykstra, Public Works and Planning Coordinator for the Town of St. Marys. “This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to our urban tree canopy.”

St. Marys residents can purchase a tree online beginning September 20 at 10 am, at www.stmarystreepower.ca. The trees will be available for pick up in St. Marys on Saturday, October 15. Available tree varieties include: Autumn Blaze Maple, Downy Serviceberry, Ironwood, Native Red Maple, Red Maple, Sugar Maple, and Paper Birch.

The program’s goal is to create a greener and more beautiful community by adding native trees. The UTRCA Tree Power program began more than 10 years ago in London. This is the first year Tree Power is being held in St. Marys.

The following program partners have contributed funding and in-kind donations:  Town of St. Marys, St. Marys Green Committee, Upper Thames River Conservation Authority.
