UTRCA Celebrates National Tree Day with Home Hardware (UTRCA media release, September 20, 2022)

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is joining the Home Hardware London East store as the store celebrates its 30 years of partnering with Tree Canada.

On Friday, September 23, 150 trees will be planted at the entrance to Meander Creek Park, which is part of Kilally Meadows Environmentally Significant Area in London. Staff from the UTRCA and Home Hardware as well as students from the London Christian High School will be participating.

“We chose this site in collaboration with the City of London. It is building on previously planted trees in the area, and will increase the tree cover and shade in London,” says Karen Pugh, UTRCA Resource Specialist.

Every September since Tree Canada was founded in 1992, Home Hardware Dealer-Owners across Canada have been rolling up their sleeves to host Home Hardware Community Tree Plants on National Tree Day. Home Hardware Stores Limited and independent Dealer-Owners are proud to support Tree Canada’s vision to improve the lives of Canadians by planting and nurturing trees, while teaching Canadians the value of trees.

“Thank you to the students who will be taking part in the planting!” said Dave Kirk, Dealer-Owner of London East Home Hardware. “It has been 11 years since I took over this particular store and we have worked with the UTRCA for many years. I’m proud to be part of the Home Hardware planting team that has seen hundreds of trees planted in several sites around London.”
