LID for Residents

LID is a form of landscaping that manages rainwater on your property.  It can help reduce problems with ponding water on your property, and can also add beauty to your yard.  By using LID techniques, you also know you are helping to protect the health of your local streams.

There are many LID techniques that residents can implement to help manage stormwater quantity and quality, including the following:

  • Downspout disconnection
  • Absorbent landscapes
  • Rain gardens
  • Rain barrels
  • Soakaways
  • Permeable paving
  • Green roofs
  • Stormwater planters

For further information on these and other techniques, follow this link to the Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program’s “Low Impact Development Stormwater Management Planning and Design Guide,” and look under “Structural BMP Types” and “Non-structural Practices.”
