Two Celebrating Natural Connections events this month (UTRCA Weekly, October 7, 2022)

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is hosting two more free Celebrating Natural Connections events this month!

On Saturday, October 15, a family friendly event will be held at Hodges Pond. This day will include birds of prey shows by the Raptor Conservancy, species at risk display, guided hikes led with Woodstock Field Naturalists and UTRCA staff, kids’ activities led by Oxford Early ON, Wildlife Gardening, a nature art activity, and more. A new section of trail will also be officially opened to commemorate the efforts of frontline workers during the pandemic.

The following day, on Sunday, October 16, we’ll be Celebrating Natural Connections at the Dorchester Mill Pond. This event will include planting 300 pollinator plants, guided hikes with the Mill Pond Committee and UTRCA staff, children’s activities, yoga, a drumming circle, a Pinch Pot activity with the Museum of Ontario Archaeology, and a snake show with Sciensational Sssnakes. There will also be an accessible picnic table unveiled to commemorate the contribution of frontline workers during the pandemic.

Celebrating Natural Connections commemorates the efforts of frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and celebrates the natural spaces that are so important for our physical and mental health. Local artists and municipalities are involved in the events, as well as hiking, naturalist, and angler clubs.
