Wildwood Outdoor Education Centre: Virtual Field Trips

While we may not be meeting in person, we can still share in the wonders and joys of nature together! Join Wildwood Education staff on a curriculum-connected virtual adventure using multiple media formats to engage, inform, and visit with students and staff. Programs are currently available for classes from Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Wild Wonders program includes:

  • A 30 – 45 minute synchronous session with Wildwood Education staff for sharing and questions.

Wild Wonders Program Fee: $87.50/per class

All Kindergarten – Grade 6 programs include:

  • A topic-specific suite of activities, available for 2 weeks, with links to videos, outside project suggestions, electronic games, and extension ideas.
  • A 30 – 45 minute synchronous session with Wildwood Education staff for sharing, games, and questions.

Wild Wonders Nature is full of wonder and awe. Classes will have the opportunity to collectively develop questions specific to a topic of interest. Wildwood Education staff will then gather answers and artifacts to share during a synchronous session. ANY
Sense-ational Seasons! Celebrate the seasons and hear some important messages from Wildwood’s puppet friends, Gary, Rocky, Abbott and Rudy! Students will learn how to be their environmental best self!

Aquatic Adventures Mayflies and craneflies and blackflies, oh my! Students will get to see some of the wiggly squiggly creatures that live in the Wildwood stream and explore the needs of other animals, too, including humans.

Animals in Winter Animals spend winter in many different ways! Students will see signs of animals that stay active in winter to learn about who the animal is and how they survive in the cold and snow.

River Safety Join “Splish” and “Splash” on a watery adventure focused on providing an understanding of water systems, awareness of hazards associated with waterways, and the tools to make appropriate safety decisions around water.

Plant Power Take a walk on the wild side! A wildflower walk on the Wildwood Lake Trail, that is! Students will learn about wildflowers through a series of riddles, map out the flower power in their space, and see how they can help pollinators stay on course.

Rock N’ Habitats Did you know that there’s a rehabilitated gravel pit at Wildwood? A walk through the Wildwood Pit will expose its history and habitats, then students can get creative with some habitat art and explore a world of words.

Focus on Flooding Be awash with the impact of flooding and the structures, both built and natural, that help defend against danger to people and places. Students will explore the past and present and maybe even create their own future.

Biodiversity Blast Explore the threats to biodiversity in the Upper Thames River watershed and what’s being done to defend against invaders. Students will find out who’s in their own space and help defend it, try to survive in a game of loss, and stay connected to help protect natural areas and the species found within them.
