Recent Plantings in Perth County

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) partnered with community organizations to help carry out some recent plantings in Perth County.

Saturday, September 26 – TD Tree day in Mitchell. The planting added an additional 100 trees to the West Perth Wetlands site. We had more than 40 enthusiastic volunteers turn up for the morning, including TD employees, local residents, and the local girls hockey team.

Saturday, October 3 – TD Tree day in St. Marys. The location was at the West Quarry, where we added 140 trees and shrubs. The site is part of the West Quarry Enhancements Project. The town has done a lot of work towards improving site safety, addressing invasive species, and preparing the area for public recreational use.

Friday, October 16 – The City of Stratford’s Energy and Environment Committee brought in 300 native trees and shrubs to fill in an area of the TJ Dolan that had been overrun by periwinkle, an invasive species. The new trees and shrubs included two species of oak, Sugar Maple, Black Cherry, plum, Chokeberry, Sweetfern, and more. City staff helped bring the plants to the trailhead and community volunteers and students from Nancy Campbell Institute helped get everything in the ground.

Thank you to everyone who helped!
