Class Environmental Assessments for Harrington and Embro Dams

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA) is undertaking Class Environmental Assessment studies to determine courses of action for Harrington Dam and Embro Dam in the Township of Zorra.

  • May/June 2015 update: Field crews from Ecosystem Recovery Inc. and the UTRCA visited both sites to collect up to date data for the studies (see Existing Environmental Conditions reports below).
  • June 10, 2015 update: ‘Notice of Intent and Public Information Centre’ have been posted below to mark the study commencement and to provide further information on the studies and next steps.
  • August 2015 update: The Township of Zorra included an article about the Harrington and Embro Dams in the 2015 fall edition of “Zorra Now” (page 16).
  • December 16, 2015 update: Background reports added to reflect the work completed to date to characterize the environment of the Harrington and Embro dam sites and areas: Stage 1 Archaeological Assessment, Existing Environmental Conditions, Existing Geomorphic Conditions.
  • April 22, 2016 update: Posted notices of Public Information Centre #2 for and Embro (May 10/16) and Harrington (May 12/16) dams.
  • May 16, 2016 update: Posted UTRCA presentations, alternative plans, and comment forms from Public Information Centres #2.
  • October 6, 2016 update: Posted notices of Public Information Centre #3 for and Embro (Oct 17/16) and Harrington (Oct 20/16) dams.
  • October 13 & 24, 2016 update: Posted UTRCA presentations, alternative plans, and comment forms from Public Information Centres #3.
  • December 5, 2016 update: Posted various files, comments, etc. from all Public Information Centres.
  • March 27, 2017 update: Posted Harrington Dam and Conservation Area Existing Environmental Conditions and Appendix D. Harrington Conservation Area Vegetation and Bird Inventory (both updated March 8/17)
  • June 9, 2017 update: Posted Harrington Dam Class Environmental Assessment DRAFT and Embro Dam Class Environmental Assessment DRAFT
  • January 18, 2022 update: Posted Harrington and Embro Conservation Areas Heritage Studies and presentation made at January 10, 2022 meeting with Harrington and Area Community Association (HACA). The presentation provides information on how the heritage studies fit into the EAs as well as discussion on the proposed master planning process for Harrington CA and recent HACA initiatives.
